Guidance and Counseling

Mission Statement:

To provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program that will assist all students in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to become effective students, responsible citizens, productive workers and lifelong learners.

The Gibson Middle School Comprehensive Counseling Program is an integral part of the school’s total program with a commitment to education, individuality and helping each student reach their maximum potential. The program focuses on the relationships and interactions between students and their school environment with the expressed purpose of reducing the effect of environmental and institutional barriers that impede student academic success.

We Believe:

All students have dignity and worth.

All students are entitled to the services of a professional school counselor.

Effective school counseling is a collaborative process that involves, not only school counselors, but students, parents, teachers, administrators, community leaders and other stakeholders alike.

The Gibson Middle School School Counselors:

Plan and manage the comprehensive school counseling program
 
Promote and support the academic achievements, personal and social development and career planning of every student

Advocate for student success by offering individual counseling, group counseling and classroom guidance

Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior as outlined by the American School Counselor Association Code of Ethics

Analyze student data and conduct an annual program audit to evaluate the effectiveness of the school counseling program
 
Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and community members to help all students develop skills in the areas of personal/social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development
 
Empower families to act on behalf of their children by helping parents/guardians identify student needs and shared interests, as well as access available resources
 
Attend and participate in professional learning opportunities
